The fabled Grand Theft Auto series has been banned by countries, spat on by parents and beloved by gamers. While several offshoot games helped to satiate the masses, a nearly six year hole has grown since the 2001 release of Grand Theft Auto III.
On Thursday, Rockstar Games delivered the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV and while the company released few details about the full game, the trailer offers up loads of details. First, a NYC-style skyline complete with the Empire State Building shows off a vastly improving game engine (the RAGE engine was first used in Rockstar Presents Table Tennis) with a high level of environmental animations, crowds of people and effects that showcase shadow and light.
The game's protagonist, who sounds like he hails from Eastern Europe and admits to killing, smuggling and selling people -- and hopes that his new life in the city will be different . Turn the lights down low, watch the trailer and expect the entire gaming world to examine it as closely as the Zapruder film.
